New Boundary Treatment Methods Enhance Compressible Flow Simulations
Researchers Navaneet Villodi and Prabhu Ramachandran have proposed new boundary treatment methods for compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). These methods address the challenges specific to compressible flows, which have limited SPH's ability to simulate flows around bodies accurately. The new techniques include a novel method to prevent particle penetration at boundaries, showing significant improvements over recent approaches. The study utilized a variety of test problems to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed methods. The implementation is open source, and the results are automated to ensure reproducibility. This advancement positions SPH as a viable alternative to traditional mesh-based methods for compressible flow simulations. The full paper is available on arXiv with the identifier arXiv:2402.06231.
